“How many more do you want, it’s time to get out” – When Steffi Graf joked with Martina Navratilova after losing Wimbledon final

Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova, two tennis legends, dominated the sport with their remarkable careers, amassing an impressive 40 Grand Slam singles titles between them. In 1987, they clashed in three Major finals, including Wimbledon, where Navratilova was the top-seeded defending champion. Graf, the second seed, had defeated Navratilova in the French Open final earlier that year. In their Wimbledon final, Navratilova triumphed 7-5, 6-3, securing her sixth consecutive Wimbledon crown and tying the record for most titles at the grasscourt Major.

Following the match, Graf jokingly asked Navratilova how many more Wimbledon titles she desired. Navratilova playfully responded, stating that nine was her lucky number. Remarkably, she went on to win her ninth Wimbledon title in 1990, remaining undefeated throughout the tournament and claiming her 18th and final Grand Slam singles title.

Graf and Navratilova faced each other a total of 18 times during their careers, with their head-to-head record evenly split at 9-9. Their intense rivalry included six Grand Slam finals, with Navratilova emerging victorious at Wimbledon and the US Open in 1987, while Graf prevailed in the remaining four encounters.

Their last encounter took place in the 1994 Pan Pacific Open final, with Graf emerging triumphant with a score of 6-2, 6-4. The rivalry between these two tennis icons was brief but fierce, showcasing their immense talent and competitive spirit.
