Daniel Ricciardo admits that he might struggle to adapt to the AlphaTauri Formula 1 car’s “limitations” as he hopes that it provides a good balance for him to adapt to in the early races with the team.Nyck de Vries struggled to finish in the points for the ten races he completed with the team, while Yuki Tsunoda has come close but only finished on two occasions.
The team currently sits last in the Constructors’ Championship with only two points, seven points off Alfa Romeo and a further nine points off Haas and Williams.
Ricciardo had a tough time at McLaren adapting to certain characteristics of their car compared to Lando Norris, while Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner also noted that he picked up “habits” which affected his driving.
Ricciardo: Budapest is about having fun
“The car will be what it is, I’m going to drive it and then work from there,” Ricciardo told Formula 1 about adapting to the tricky AT04 machine.“I don’t want to get too many preconceived ideas. I appreciate the car’s going to have its limitations, I imagine they’re just lacking some overall downforce.
“I think if it’s a car that feels balanced – it might not have as much grip as the Red Bull I drove a few days ago, but if it feels relatively balanced – then that’s something I can work with.”I’m looking forward to also developing it and using my experience. But for Budapest, just go out and have fun, just more right foot than left and have a good time.”
