In his withdrawal, he stated that he would not be playing at the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag this year. Rune conveyed to the tournament director Tomislav Poljak that it is because of his lower back injury, that he would not be participating in the upcoming tournament.
The same lower back injury is the reason the Danish was not able to perform his best during the preceding week at the Hopman Cup where he did not win a single match.
Rune has reportedly had a fever and has been sick in bed for four days, according to Ekstra Bladet. He has also been experiencing pain in his wrist and upper back, and the young star’s mother Aneke has advised him not to participate in the Hopman Cup and withdraw from Umag. His mother has heavily influenced this decision of not participating in any tournaments right now, instead, he will undergo surgery for his hip to resolve the injury.
Holger Rune displayed poor performance in the Hopman Cup
In Munich, the 20-year-old Rune, who has a 37-13 record for the year, won his fourth tour-level championship. At the ATP Masters 1000 clay-court competitions in Monte Carlo and Rome, he also reached the finals.
