The young professional tennis player, Holger Vitus Ndskov, was born on April 29 in Denmark. She has swiftly established himself as a dominant force on the court. He quickly advanced to his career-high position of number six in the men’s singles. The rank made him the only Danish player to be ranked that high.
Holger Rune took to Instagram to announce his withdrawal through the official page of the UMAG from the fast-approaching tennis event. In his withdrawal, he stated that he would not be playing at the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag this year. Rune conveyed to the tournament director Tomislav Poljak that it is because of his lower back injury, that he would not be participating in the upcoming tournament.
The same lower back injury is the reason the Danish was not able to perform his best during the preceding week at the Hopman Cup where he did not win a single match.
Rune has reportedly had a fever and has been sick in bed for four days, according to Ekstra Bladet. He has also been experiencing pain in his wrist and upper back, and the young star’s mother Aneke has advised him not to participate in the Hopman Cup and withdraw from Umag. His mother has heavily influenced this decision of not participating in any tournaments right now, instead, he will undergo surgery for his hip to resolve the injury.
Holger Rune displayed poor performance in the Hopman Cup
In Munich, the 20-year-old Rune, who has a 37-13 record for the year, won his fourth tour-level championship. At the ATP Masters 1000 clay-court competitions in Monte Carlo and Rome, he also reached the finals.
Rune had achieved success as a junior tennis player, having won multiple championships. In 2019 he won the French Open while holding the No. 1 ranking. Holger has maintained his desire to increase his list of victories since going pro in 2020.
Unfortunately, Rune would not be able to add the UMAG 2023 title to his name due to his lower hip injury. He has also withdrawn from the Hopman Cup after displaying a disappointing performance due to the unfortunate injury.
In the Hopman Cup’s first match, Leandro Riedi pulled off an upset by defeating Holger Rune, the current World No. 6. The matchup between the national teams of the reigning champions Switzerland and Denmark was exhilarating. Rune was then defeated by the seasoned tennis veteran Richard Gasquet of France, He upset the youngster Holger Rune of Denmark in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
