Holger Rune suggests Carlos Alcaraz’s Wimbledon success hasn’t really affected his own motivation and determination to do big things. Alcaraz, 20, lifted his second Grand Slam title after beating Novak Djokovic in this year’s Wimbledon final.
Rune, who is also 20 years old, is ranked at No 6 in the world and the Dane isn’t hiding that he is also aiming for Grand Slam titles and the world No 1 ranking. While some have openly admitted to being inspired by Alcaraz’s success, Rune insists he isn’t lacking any motivation and suggested he remains only focused on himself.
“I’m always very motivated even before he won the Slams. I have my goals that I want to achieve and have chances to achieve it this year also and I’m going to go for it,” Rune said.Rune on if he, Alcaraz & Jannik Sinner are the new Big Three
Some think that Rune, Alcaraz and Sinner are the future of tennis and three players that will be competing against each other for the biggest accolades in the future.
Rune is happy that his name is being mentioned in such context but highlighted that he and Sinner first need to win some Grand Slams. “I know and I heard people talk about it and things too early to say and you know, only one of us has won has won Grand Slams and that’s Carlos but yeah I mean we’re young of course, we have time on our side.
But still, we got to make the results so, you know, I you know have to focus on myself and I’m sure Jannik, I’m sure Alcaraz does that and go with our own journey and then it’s a good debate for tennis,” Rune said.Rune is currently enjoying a career-high ranking of No 6 in the world and he will certainly enter the US Open determined to win his first Grand Slam.
